Iowa State football appears to have its new defensive coordinator in place for Jimmy Rogers' coaching staff.
Washington State interim head coach Jesse Bobbit, who served as the Cougars' defensive coordinator and linebackers coach this season, will reunite with Rogers in Ames after Washington State finishes the 2025 season with the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, according to Greg Woods of the Spokesman Review.
Bobbit and Rogers have ties that go back to South Dakota State. Bobbit was a linebacker for the Jackrabbits from 2013-16, while Rogers was the linebackers coach at that time.
Bobbit held a graduate assistant job for South Dakota State in 2019, then moved to Washington State to serve in a similar role for 2020-21. He later returned to South Dakota State for his first collegiate position coaching job, workin as the Jackrabbits' safeties coach in 2022.
He was promoted to defensive coordinator, and Rogers took over as the Jackrabbits' head coach in 2023-24. They stayed together when they went to Pullman, Washington, for one season coaching the Cougars. Now they'll work together again in Ames.
Washington State allowed 303.3 yards per game this season, ranking 18th in the country. The Cougars held opponents to 20.17 points per game, which tied Iowa State for 26th in the country.
The Cougars went 6-6 in the regular season and are scheduled to play Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 22 at 1 p.m. CT.
