Louisville football’s consecutive losses caused the Cardinals to drop out of the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night.

The team fell to Clemson, 20-19, a week removed from a 29-26 overtime loss to California. Despite having earned bowl eligibility a month ago, U of L (7-3, 4-3 ACC) is officially out of the ACC championship and CFP pictures. It’ll still look to reach at least nine wins for a third straight season when it plays at SMU before hosting Kentucky in the Governor’s Cup for the regular-season finale.

Louisville is projected to play in several different bowls, including the Pinstripe Bowl, the Mayo Bowl, the Military Bowl and the Gator Bowl.

“We look at it as a one-game season,” tight end Nate Kurisky said. “So whether you win or lose, (Cardinals coach Jeff) Brohm says the next week you’re expected to win. You can’t just lay down just because we lost two in a row. Like, so what? On to the next game. You’ve just got to go out there and win. So, planning to win the next two games and then game after that.”
