Whit Weeks is returning to Baton Rouge. LSU’s defensive captain made the announcement Saturday on Instagram with a picture of his No. 40 jersey and a caption explaining why he’ll rock the purple and gold in 2026.
Injuries have hampered Weeks’ career recently, as he dislocated his ankle in the 2024 Texas Bowl against Baylor, missed a portion of this season to recover, then broke the same ankle in Week 5 against Ole Miss. The Georgia native is aiming for a healthy and productive senior campaign in 2026, and nowhere is more appealing for him to make that happen than Baton Rouge.
“College is too much fun to leave, and there is no better place in the country to be right now than Baton Rouge, Louisiana,” Weeks wrote. “All I want to do is ball in the purple and gold. See you in September.”
Weeks is dating Landry Kiffin, the daughter of new LSU coach Lane Kiffin, and it’s unclear how that connection factored into Weeks’ decision.
What we do know is Kiffin and Weeks have had some fun at each other’s expense. After Ole Miss’ upset win over LSU in September, Kiffin joked about looking for Weeks post-game “to see if we covered the over.” And when Kiffin took the LSU job in November, Weeks trolled Kiffin with a social media post.
With Kiffin in tow expectations are championship or bust for LSU, which has largely floundered since Ed Orgeron led the program to a national title in 2019. A healthy Weeks sticking around will go a long way in solidifying the Tigers’ defense and meeting those expectations.
