Isaiah Horton Could Unlock Marcel Reed and Texas A&M’s Offense

Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed took a major step forward in 2025. The next one will determine whether the Aggies are simply dangerous or legitimate championship contenders.
Reed finished his first full season as the starter with 3,169 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Those numbers showed real progress, but they also hid the biggest concern entering 2026. Against top-35 defenses, Reed completed only 59 percent of his throws and produced six touchdown passes against eight interceptions.
That’s the version of Reed Texas A&M can’t afford to see when the schedule gets nasty.
Reed has spent the offseason working with new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins and first-year quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch, who has known the Tennessee native since recruiting him while serving as Vanderbilt’s offensive coordinator.
The priority is clear … trust the read, get the football out on time and eliminate the “mental mistakes” that turned manageable possessions into giveaways last season.
The good news is Reed now has a receiving corps built to make his job easier.
Mario Craver returns after helping form one of the SEC’s most explosive combinations with KC Concepcion.
The pair totaled 1,836 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 2025 before Concepcion became the No. 24 overall pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Craver now becomes the headliner, but Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton might be the piece that changes everything.
At 6-4 and 215 pounds, Horton gives Reed the size and contested-catch option the Aggies badly lacked last season.
Texas A&M’s smaller receivers could create separation, but the offense became easier to squeeze when defenses took away deep space and forced Reed to avoid risky 50/50 shots.
Horton changes that equation.
“We've been searching for that size guy since we got there,” Mike Elko said during SEC Media Days.
The Texas A&M coach believes Horton can become far more than a situational target.
“Going out and getting a guy who has the ability to have a big catch radius and make the contested catches… I've been really excited about his development through this offseason.”
Horton’s presence should pull coverage away from Craver, Ashton Bethel-Roman and Terry Bussey, opening more room underneath and across the middle.
He also gives Reed a true red-zone target, an element the Aggies have struggled to establish consistently.
Texas A&M’s 2026 schedule is loaded with “big games,” and Reed must prove he can protect the football when the pressure rises.

Horton won’t erase every mistake, but he gives Reed something every quarterback loves: a target who doesn’t have to be completely open to make a play.
That could be the difference between another promising season and a breakthrough year in College Station.
