In today’s college football, there are plenty of ways to improve your roster, and the Florida Gators have some catching up to do.
When the Florida Gators hired Billy Napier, they knew a lot of work needed to be done with the infrastructure of the program. Facilities needed to be upgraded and personnel needed to be both improved and added to. During his tenure, they did a lot of good in those areas, but it resulted in 22-23 record.
With the hiring of Jon Sumrall as the head coach, he was tasked with taking the program to the next level. It started with recruiting, where Sumrall has been a dominant force. The Gators currently have a top-10 recruiting class and 14 total commitments. He knows that recruiting in high school is going to be paramount to success in the SEC, and Sumrall is doing what he can to maximize the Gators’ chances.
Jon Sumrall has a blueprint to make the program into a monster
One of the biggest aspects about competing at the highest level is the financial backing. The program is working on building that up, and Sumrall is honest about where they currently sit. Most importantly, he isn’t making excuses.
“I think there are certain teams that are, I would say, $15 million above us at minimum in college football right now and in our conference. For us to have championship expectations and standards year in and year out, we’ve got to make sure we’re pushing the envelope to get resource like that.”

In return for improving the Gators football program, Sumrall isn’t just going to take the money; he’s giving them access behind closed doors.
“The more you’re investing in our program, the more access I’ll give you. Anybody that wants to be really involved in our program, if they’re going to be all in with us, then I’m going to open the door for them in a lot of different ways.”

He knows what it takes to make the Gators as great as possible and is willing to do so. However, it’s a process to get there. The good news for Gators fans is that the path is already in process.
