Things have not been going great for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes this year, and it sounds like longtime college football analyst Paul Finebaum is ready to call it the end.

Following a 29-7 loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday in a game where Colorado threw four interceptions, Finebaum has declared the Sanders era “over” in Boulder.

Ugly Loss to Texas Tech

Colorado actually led Texas Tech for the majority of Satruday afternoon’s game. The Buffalos scored a touchdown on their opening drive and held a 7-3 lead at the half. The Red Raiders did not take the lead until the 3:01 mark in the third quarter when a touchdown put them up 12-7 after a failed two-point conversion.

The Buffaloes even had a chance late in the fourth quarter, trailing 15-7 midway through the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for Colorado, quarterback Isaac Wilson threw an interception in his own end zone while attempting a screen pass, putting the Red Raiders up two scores.

Throughout the game, Colorado threw three different interceptions – three from Wilson and one from running back Joseph Williams. Colorado also turned the ball over on downs three times throughout the game. In total, that marks seven turnovers.

‘It’s over’

With this most recent loss, Colorado is now 2-3 on the season and 18-24 overall under Sanders. Given the nature of the loss, Finebaum has clearly lost confidence in the Sanders era in Colorado.

“When the last image of a program’s last breath is your quarterback in his own end zone throwing a pick six, it’s over,” Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Show. “And I am not an ‘I told you so guy.’ And I thought I was wrong when I made this bullish statement years ago, and I never liked the move to Colorado. It just felt too far away from his core base. It just didn’t feel right, and I was completely wrong for a while because they bought into it. But that is not an easy place to manage.

One way or another, Finebaum thinks the end is near for Sanders.

“It is going to end either gracefully or spectacularly badly for Deion. I hate it. I know you do. Everybody does because … I’ve come to really respect and admire him. Three or four years ago, I mean, we would be starting this conversation about him and ending it about him, as every show on ESPN would be doing the same thing.”
