The Ohio Bobcats will welcome the Jacksonville State Gamecocks Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ET at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium (Athens, Ohio).
Ohio is coming home looking for redemption after taking a loss in their road opener. They took a serious blow against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Week 1, falling 49-21. The game was a close 14-13 at the break, but unfortunately for the Bobcats it sure didn’t stay that way.
Ohio’s loss shouldn’t obscure the performances of quarterback Nick Poulos, who rushed for 70 yards and one touchdown, and receiver Riley Neer, who picked up 104 receiving yards and one TD. One big catch in particular stood out, adding 68 yards to Neer’s total.
Meanwhile, after a disappointing seven points in their last contest, Jacksonville State made sure to put some points up on the board against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in Week 1. The Gamecocks simply couldn’t be stopped as they easily beat Eastern Kentucky 49-7. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.
Quarterback Caden Creel and receiver Jamill Williams were among the main playmakers for Jacksonville State as the former threw for 327 yards and five touchdowns (one INT) while completing 75% of his passes and the latter picked up 144 receiving yards and four scores. Williams had some trouble finding his footing against the North Dakota State Bison in Week 0, so this was a step in the right direction. Another player making a difference was running back Jalen Likely, who rushed for 73 yards and one TD on only five carries.
Jacksonville State trampled Eastern Kentucky’s defense to the tune of 526 total yards. The Gamecocks haven’t posted that many total yards since they put up 515 against Western Kentucky on Nov. 29 last year.
Ohio skirted past Jacksonville State 30-27 the last time they met, back in 2024. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Gamecocks have a better game plan this time around?
