On a day that coaching hires are being made official, the Spartans social media team has announced another hire for Michigan State's defensive staff.

After officially announcing Joe Rossi as defensive coordinator and Max Bullough as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, James Adams has been officially announced as the team's safeties coach, officially being retained by the new coaching staff.

Adams was a hire that was made by Rossi before the 2025 season, and is someone that is staying around. Prior to coming to East Lansing, Adams spent three seasons (2022-24) at Wake Forest as a safeties coach. The rest of his career was spent at Purdue (2021), Navy (2020), Western Michigan (2019) and Charlotte (2011-2018)

It is worth noting that Adams being named as safeties coach, and not cornerbacks coach, indicates that a cornerbacks coach will be hired down the line.
