Former Penn State coach James Franklin seems to have already found his next stop.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported on Monday afternoon that Franklin was finalizing a deal to join Virginia Tech as its next head coach.

Franklin was expected to be one of the hottest coaching candidates in this cycle, but Virginia Tech has gotten ahead of the crowd to work on locking in the former Penn State coach for the foreseeable future.

It's unclear when this deal will get done, but all signs point to Franklin taking the field with the Hokies as their next head coach. Talk about a quick reversal of fortune for Franklin and Virginia Tech.

Franklin's impending Virginia Tech hire is just the first domino to fall in this college coaching cycle.

Where did Franklin coach before Penn State?

Franklin spent a few seasons with the Vanderbilt Commodores before getting the Penn State job in 2014.
