James Franklin didn’t take long to find a job after Penn State fired him midseason, as on Monday ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that him and Virginia Tech are finalizing a deal to become its head coach, an opening that Notre Dame fans had been watching.
After the fiery exchanges that were between Franklin and Irish head coach Marcus Freeman took over the headlines, and it very much looks like that will continue starting next fall. Notre Dame and Virginia Tech are scheduled to play each other in 2027 and 2028 with the first game being in South Bend according to FBSchedules.com.
If you want to look even further out, the Irish and Hokies also have games on the schedule in 2033 and 2036, but those games are so far away, most of those players are still in middle school or lower. It will be great to see Notre Dame re-establishing its rivalry with Franklin, even though it won’t be while he’s with the Nittany Lions.
