Jayden Daniels & LSU Drama Takes Petty Turn in Wild New Rumor

Things between Jayden Daniels and his alma mater, LSU, just got even weirder following a new rumor about the drama between the Tigers’ great and the program.
The Washington Commanders quarterback had a memorable two-year run with LSU after transfering from Arizona State in 2022. He brought stability to the QB position, then emerged as one of the nation’s best signal callers during a Heisman Trophy-winning campaign three years ago. It solidified his place as one of the best players in the legendary program’s history.
That fact seemingly gave Daniels the impression that he deserved special treatment long after his days in Baton Rouge were over. Such as his No. 5 uniform not being worn by another player after he left for the NFL in 2024. However, new LSU coach Lane Kiffin saw things differently and decided to allow sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett to wear the number after it was allegedly promised to him during the recruiting process before the 2025 season.

Well, that upset Daniels, and ESPN reported this week that the QB and his reps sent the school a cease-and-desist letter requesting that the university stop using his name, image & likeness for promotional purposes, recently. But it seems that wasn’t his only angry demand.
Jayden Daniels demanded Heisman Trophy back from LSU?
According to LouisianaSports.net, “Daniels’s camp also requested LSU return its copy of the Heisman Trophy Daniels won in 2023.” However, the outlet added, understandably, that “LSU has no intention of doing so and is undecided to what degree it will comply with the cease-and-desist, noting it is not a legally binding document.”
It is a very weird turn for a situation that is pretty ridiculous. Could LSU have reached out to Daniels to let him know about plans to slap the No.5 jersey on Pickett? Sure. Did they have to? No. Daniels must have forgotten that LSU football has existed since 1902. The No. 5 has been worn by many players before him and will be after him.
Yes, he had a memorable season in 2023. But his frustration about someone else wearing his number gives the impression that his memorable season should be forever immortalized. As great as it was, that is a silly notion for an institution that has existed for over 100 years and will probably be around for another 100 years.
