Jayden Maiava is ready to lead USC into battle against Oregon

On Saturday, USC will host Oregon in a West Coast clash at the Coliseum. Leading the Trojans into battle for the massive game will be redshirt senior quarterback Jayden Maiava.
A recent USC Athletics feature profiled Maiava and his journey from a humble childhood in Hawaii to USC’s starting quarterback.
“There nothing average about Trojan quarterback Jayden Maiava or the journey that shaped him,” student communications assistant Natalie Miller wrote.
“Bus rides to school at 4 a.m. and practice at the end of the day never fazed him. They were simply part of the journey, another opportunity to prove his commitment by showing up day after day.
”His upbringing came with stretches of poverty and uncertainty, including periods of homelessness and not knowing whether food would be on the table. Those experiences shaped his understanding of what it means to keep going, even when things get difficult.
“This past summer, Maiava showed up for the kids of Hawaii, hosting a free youth football camp in the Palolo Valley that he funded himself. The same community that raised him filled the park, bringing together children and families from all across the island.
“At USC, being the quarterback means more than running the offense. It is a brand in its own rite that carries a unique responsibility and heritage. Through his personal growth, Maiava has defined what that role means to him and established his own place within it.”
On Thursday, head coach Lincoln Riley said of Maiava, “He's the guy I want taking us into this game for sure." Against Oregon, USC’s quarterback will have the opportunity to deliver his signature moment in Cardinal and Gold to date.
