Sherrone Moore was Jim Harbaugh's hand-picked successor for the Michigan football head coaching job, and he made it clear throughout the final year of his tenure in Ann Arbor. Harbaugh had so much faith in Moore that he gave him the keys as acting head coach for four of his six games that he was suspended in the 2023 season, including the pivotal three-game stretch at Penn State, at Maryland, and vs. Ohio State to conclude the year. And when Harbaugh left for the NFL, Moore was one of the few coaches he didn't tap to join him in Los Angeles.

Now, Harbaugh is watching from afar, witnessing Moore's firing and subsequent arrest. His reaction? Well, he's still working through it.

"Still processing that," Harbaugh said. "Heard that. Chad Jessop told me, one of our equipment guys, when we were coming off the field on Thursday. So — still processing that, like a lot of people, I'm sure."

Harbaugh hired Moore to be the Wolverines' tight ends coach, via Central Michigan, in 2018. In January 2021, he promoted Moore — a former offensive lineman who played for Oklahoma — to offensive line coach and the co-offensive coordinator working under then-OC Josh Gattis. The next year, with Gattis departing for the Miami Hurricanes, Moore had more responsibilities as the co-OC, sharing the role with (also embattled) Matt Weiss, who had come aboard to be quarterbacks coach from the Baltimore Ravens. When Weiss was ousted for his own alleged sexual deviancy problems (that FBI-led case is still ongoing), Moore was promoted to offensive coordinator.
