Colorado State has officially turned the page, and they’ve done it by landing one of the most intriguing head-coaching hires of this cycle. Jim Mora, who rebuilt UConn from a struggling independent into a disciplined, explosive, and tough-minded program, is now set to take over in Fort Collins. And make no mistake: this is a swing for upside, structure, and proven development.

Mora brings a decade of college head-coaching experience with him, posting a 73-53 overall record and going 3-3 in bowl games. His recent three-year run at UConn is where his reputation truly took off again. After inheriting a program in shambles, Mora went 27-23, with an incredible 18 wins coming in just the past two seasons. The 2025 Huskies were one of the most efficient teams in the entire country; something Colorado State fans should be excited about.

UConn averaged 34.9 points per game, ranked No. 1 in the nation in fourth-down conversions at 76.47%, and led the entire FBS with just 0.2 giveaways per game. Even more impressive, they finished No. 2 nationally in turnover margin at +1.3 per game. That’s textbook discipline, focus, and week-to-week preparation.

Colorado State has talent, a passionate fan base, and the resources to rise in the Mountain West. What they’ve lacked is identity. Mora brings a complete one, rooted in efficiency, execution, and maximizing every possession.

If Mora can replicate even 80% of what he built at UConn, Colorado State may have just pulled off the steal of the coaching carousel.
