Feuds make for great rivalries and even better television, but the ones that truly stick are the ones that grow organically—not the manufactured, social‑media‑ready kind. Few illustrate that better than the long‑simmering tension between Texas A&M and Ole Miss, sparked years ago by an internet message board rumor from someone known only as “sliced bread.”

That rumor—claiming the Aggies spent an astronomical amount to land their No. 1 recruiting class—prompted Lane Kiffin to fire off his now‑famous “Luxury Tax” jab. It was classic Kiffin: part troll, part commentary on the early chaos of NIL. But it never sat well with Jimbo Fisher, and the two coaches have been circling each other ever since.

The feud cooled once Fisher stepped away from coaching, but with Ole Miss embroiled in drama involving Kiffin, LSU, and the College Football Playoff, Fisher couldn’t resist weighing in. Appearing on ACC Network’s Inside ACCess, he took direct aim at how Kiffin has handled his staff while the Rebels are still preparing for the CFP.

Fisher didn’t mince words:

“He thought his dysfunction of leaving would cause them the dysfunction. No, it united them. And those coaches went back because they love the kids and they did it and now he’s pulling them back. When you made that decision back then to say they can coach, they should coach all the way through…”

At its core, Fisher’s argument was simple: either let your coaches finish the job, or don’t let them coach at all. Pulling them mid‑run, in his view, only makes Kiffin look like a petty villain.

And honestly? There’s some truth there.

Kiffin has always marched to the beat of his own drum. He’s going to do what he wants, how he wants, and he rarely apologizes for it. If he gets labeled a villain, he’ll probably shrug, drop a quotable one‑liner, and move on to the next storyline. That’s who he is—and it’s part of why this feud has always had staying power.

Below is a portion of Fisher’s segment, where he dives deeper into his perspective on the situation.
