Jimbo Fisher Calls Out College Football Head Coach Over ‘Selfish’ Decision

The No. 10 seed Miami Hurricanes face off against the No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels in the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday night. This marks the first game of the College Football Playoff semifinal, and the winner advances to the title game to face the Oregon-Indiana winner.

However, the big story is regarding former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. After the Egg Bowl, Kiffin left Ole Miss to take the LSU Tigers job, and Pete Golding was immediately named the new coach in Oxford.

When Kiffin took the LSU job, he also took some Ole Miss assistants with him, including Charlie Weis Jr., and several of them have stayed with the Rebels during the CFP run.

On Wednesday, Golding revealed that Weis would stay with Ole Miss for now, but tight ends coach Joe Cox and wide receivers coach George McDonald would return to LSU and not coach for the Miami game.

One day before the Fiesta Bowl, former college football head coach Jimbo Fisher did not hold back on the situation involving Kiffin and his assistants, who are still working with Ole Miss.

“It’s selfish. That’s what it is. It’s stupid,” Fisher said. “Now he got egg on his face because the real Lane came back out. If those guys were allowed to coach the first game, they should be allowed to coach.”

“If you took them all and said they’re never coming back, that’s fine, you set the rules of the game. You don’t change the rules in the middle of the game,” Fisher continued. “As a coach, that’s hurting the kids and it’s p****** me off.”

It’s been quite the decision by Kiffin to leave Ole Miss and go to LSU, and Fisher adds that he doesn’t think Kiffin had ever thought Ole Miss would beat Georgia and be in this situation.

If Ole Miss wins on Thursday, the Rebels will play for the national title on Jan. 19, and this drama could continue for another week-plus.
