Jimmy Rogers Accepts Iowa State Football Head Coaching Job

Iowa State reportedly has found it’s replacement for Matt Campbell. Washington State Head Coach Jimmy Rogers is set to become the Iowa State Head Coach, per Pete Thamel.

Rogers returns to the Midwest football scene after a decorated tenure at South Dakota State, where he began coaching linebackers in 2013. Over six seasons in that role, he developed one of the most consistent defensive position groups in the nation, producing at least one 100-tackle linebacker in all but one year during his nine total seasons overseeing the unit.

In 2019, Rogers was elevated to co-defensive coordinator and assistant head coach while continuing his work with the linebackers. His impact only grew from there. By 2022, he was promoted to sole defensive coordinator—and the Jackrabbits flourished. That season, SDSU led the FCS in rushing defense and interceptions and finished third nationally in points allowed. His efforts helped propel the program to the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS National Championship, a run that earned Rogers national recognition as the FCS Coordinator of the Year.

Following SDSU’s title, longtime head coach John Stiegelmeier retired after 26 seasons, and Rogers was tapped to lead the program. In his first year as head coach, he guided the Jackrabbits to continued dominance and was honored with the prestigious Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.

Now, Rogers brings his championship pedigree, defensive expertise, and proven player development track record to Ames. His arrival marks a significant addition to the Cyclone coaching staff as Iowa State continues building momentum for the seasons ahead.
