Jon Sumrall Goes Back on Comments About Him Changing Amid Losses

If we're being honest with ourselves, it was an absolutely disgusting loss for the University of Florida on Saturday against South Carolina, something that just shouldn't have happened.
There are a long list of reasons Florida couldn't come away with this win, but ultimately, giving up nearly 40 points in an SEC game at home is never a recipe for success.
Florida couldn't get anything going on defense, and it almost felt like the program overlooked the Gamecocks.
While South Carolina hasn't played great football this year, it is still an SEC opponent that can beat anyone any week. Unfortunately for Florida and head coach Jon Sumrall, they learned that the hard way.
Florida entered this game at 4-1 and had a real chance to make the College Football Playoff if things went as planned throughout the remainder of the season.
Now, as it faces some of the best teams in the SEC over the next couple of weeks, it will be very difficult for this team to come away with a playoff berth.
There's still room to do so, as Florida will take on Texas, Georgia, and a ranked Kentucky team in mid-November, but it's much harder now than it was a couple of weeks ago.
As for how Sumrall feels, with people on social media recently suggesting that he has a different persona than he typically does, he completely disagreed with that notion from the fan base, saying that he's always going to be who he is, and if anybody wanted him to be different, he wouldn't have been hired to get this job.
"When I took the job, the administration, I felt really strongly they wanted me to be me," Sumrall said, per the Naples Daily News. " Whether that be (assistant) Duke (Werner] or (AD) Scott Stricklin; (president) Stuart Bell wasn't here yet, but he's been around me enough. I think he's pretty comfortable with how direct and how vulgar I can be, maybe …
"If anybody wanted me to act differently, I wouldn't have come here. So good luck trying to reel me in or tell me how to do it or whatever. My wife's tried, hasn't worked for her. I'm not very good at being reeled in."
Sumrall isn't anybody who is going to change, and Florida better hope that he doesn't. While it's much easier to have a great personality and be a hard-nosed coach when things are going right, he's still doing the same things, even if Florida is having some frustrating moments right now.
Sumrall has to prove he can win at this level, but even if he doesn't, I highly doubt he'll change his personality because his team isn't winning games at the level he wants.
He's as real as it gets, and that's exactly why he coaches this football team.
