Could the Spartans former head coach be remaining in the Big Ten after all? There's some speculation that he could be coaching on a conference peer's sidelines this upcoming season.
Ohio State is in the market for a new offensive coordinator and former Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith's name came up on a recent prominent podcast. The Big Ten Huddle named Smith as a "dark-horse" candidate to land on his feet as the next Ohio State offensive coordinator.
You can see the reasoning and background behind this potential connection of Smith to Ohio State:

Smith was fired following his second season as the Michigan State head coach. He had a record of 9-15, failing to reach a bowl game in both of his seasons. He does, though, have experience in coaching offense as a former offensive coordinator before becoming a head coach, which makes sense for why he's being linked to the Ohio State open offensive coordinator position.
The points brought up by Jon "JR" Rhoades during the clip above make sense, but I also would be very much surprised if we saw Smith end up with the Buckeyes. It's interesting to see the connection being made, though, nonetheless.
