There is a lot of hope that Auburn football head coach Alex Golesh can bring the school back to its winning ways.

Golesh proved at South Florida to be one of the best head coaches in the Group of Five by turning around the Bulls program. He will have to prove himself once again in the SEC as he attempts to do the same for the Tigers. College football analyst Josh Pate recently released his SEC head coach rankings, and Golesh did not make the top ten.

Pate did not use predictions for this upcoming season to complete his rankings. Instead, he used how these coaches have done over a stretch of multiple seasons and their careers.

It is not a surprise that Kirby Smart leads the list. It is a surprise that Alabama head coach Kalen Deboer landed at No. 2. All the coaches in the top ten have experience in the SEC, except for Jon Sumrall at No. 10. His success at Troy and Tulane has shown he has instant success at any school he coaches at.

How can Golesh prove himself to be one of the top ten coaches in the SEC? It is simple. Golesh has to win and beat some of the established teams in the SEC.

That will begin with the season-opener in Atlanta against the Baylor Bears. Week three presents a big opportunity when the Florida Gators visit Jordan-Hare Stadium, a game that could propel whoever wins that game into a successful season.

Auburn also has games with Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, and Alabama. Both Josh Heupel (Tennessee) and Lane Kiffin (LSU) were in the top ten of the rankings by Pate.
