Julian Lewis earns Big 12 honor after historic Week 2 performance

Colorado Buffaloes' quarterback Julian Lewis had an historic Week 2 performance against Weber State. His performance earned him Big 12 Freshman Player of the Week honors.

The redshirt freshman quarterback completed 17 of 23 passes for a career-high 366 yards, five total touchdowns and no interceptions. Lewis started the game hot, with his first-quarter stat line including 212 passing yards and three 40-plus-yard touchdowns. His four passing touchdowns set a school record for a freshman, and his 212 first-quarter passing yards were a program record.

Lewis' performance came at a crucial time, as the game followed a mediocre passing game against Georgia Tech and preceded arguably the most difficult stretch of football Colorado faces this season.

Through two games, Lewis has 490 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 62% of his passes. He will need another strong performance against Northwestern this weekend for the Buffs to come away from Week 3 with a marquee nonconference win against a decent Big Ten team.
