Julian Lewis sets CU football passing records in 52-21 win over Weber State

Julian Lewis threw four touchdown passes in the first half and ran for another as Colorado rolled over FCS opponent Weber State 52-21 on Saturday.

Lewis finished 17 of 23 for 366 yards before exiting in the third quarter. He connected with DeAndre Moore Jr. for a 66-yard score on the first play from scrimmage. The former five-star had strikes of 63, 48 and 32 yards to become the first Buffaloes QB to throw four touchdown passes in an opening half. He set another CU record with 212 yards in the first quarter.

Colorado coach Deion Sanders was happy to see Lewis getting after it, but wanted a better result. Sanders was critical of his team due to mistakes, penalties (13 for 107 yards) and lack of focus in the second half.

“We only scored 52 points, Sanders said. "It should have been a lot more productivity and a lot more expectation of that productivity. We didn’t get it done, what we want to get done, so no way that we’re satisfied with the outcome."

Colorado's offense put up 578 total yards in the second game under offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, moving to 2-0 on the season. If there was one stat that shows the efficiency of the “Go-Go” offense, it would be the outstanding play on the air and on the ground. This was the first time in 12 years that Colorado recorded a game with 400 passing yards and 150 rushing yards.

Lewis spread the ball around the field with ease like he was supposed to against a lower-division opponent. Joseph Williams had four catches for 123 yards and two scores, while Moore finished with 107 yards.

Micah Welch rushed for 106 yards, including a 55-yard TD run. Believe it or not, he's the first rusher to eclipse the century yards mark during the Sanders' era at Colorado. The first in the past 39 games.

As for the defense, Colorado took another step forward from last year. The Buffaloes ranked 133rd in run defense in 2025. Through two games, CU has allowed 178 yards on the ground.

Nate Dahle threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns for Weber State, who was outmatched the entire game. The freshman stepped in for former Ohio State five-star Devin Brown, who's sidelined due to injury.

The attendance was announced at 49,363, which is the second-largest for a game against an FCS opponent at Folsom Field. But the total came short of an official sellout for the home opener.

Colorado travels to Northwestern to finish up non-conference play on Saturday.
