Kalen DeBoer listed as potential candidate for open head coaching job

On Wednesday, the Michigan Wolverines officially parted ways with now former head coach Sherrone Moore.

Since, the talk surrounding the Michigan job opening has been among the biggest stories in all of college football, a position that many consider to be among the sports' elite at the collegiate level.

Among that talk has been a look at potential candidates that could eventually take over in Ann Arbor as well, with current Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer seemingly a name near the top of that conversation, according to some across the sport.

Per USA TODAY Sports' Blake Toppmeyer, DeBoer might just be the "hiring bar" for Michigan in their head coaching search, stating that the Wolverines have to either hire him, or clear it. USA TODAY Sports' Paul Myerburg also listed DeBoer as one of his eight candidates for the Michigan job, as did Wolverines Wire's Isaiah Hole, who mentions the Alabama head coach as his top option in Ann Arbor.

Overall, it appears that DeBoer's name is a prominent one when talking about the open Michigan head coaching position among those across college football, similar to Penn State recently. DeBoer also came out and shut down the Penn State rumors prior to the SEC title game, and time will ultimately tell if he does the same with Michigan.

Since taking over in Tuscaloosa for Nick Saban, DeBoer has led the Crimson Tide to a 19-7 combined record, while also 12-4 in SEC play. DeBoer also has the Crimson Tide as the No. 9 seed in this season's College Football Playoff.

Alabama will be back in action for the CFP first round against No. 8 seeded Oklahoma on Friday, Dec. 19. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT in Norman, Oklahoma on ABC/ESPN.
