Kalen DeBoer reveals thoughts on Alabama's new look defensive line

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer recently took a moment to speak with the media at this week's Senior Bowl.

DeBoer led the Tide to an 11-4 record across 15 games in 2025. The signal caller recorded his first playoff win as Alabama's head coach in his second season with the program, as DeBoer will look to build upon his recent success in 2026. Alabama has made a multitude of changes on both sides of the football throughout the offseason, as DeBoer and his staff will now have a number of new options to work with next year.

DeBoer took a moment to speak about the changes made to the defensive line in particular this offseason, as the Alabama head coach was ecstatic when mentioning the new additions made in recent weeks.

"I'm fired up about that group." DeBoer stated. "I'm fired up about what those guys bring, both the returners and then also newcomers coming in. I think we got longer. I think we got bigger. I think we got more athletic. I think we got some guys, both in the program and have come into it, that really care. Not just about what they can do personally for themselves, but also care about being a great teammate. Captain-type caliber people that are coming into the program. I think we really have hopefully upgraded, that's my hope. Can't say we've done it because I haven't seen them on the football field as a whole, but really like the direction that's going."

Alabama has added various defensive lineman through the transfer portal this month. Among those is edge rusher Desmond Umeozulu from South Carolina, who could quickly begin to thrive in his first season in Tuscaloosa, as the defensive line overall will more than likely have an entirely different look in 2026.
