Apr. 13—CHAMPAIGN — Illinois got a splashy start to its Class of 2027 recruiting efforts when it secured a commitment from four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati last July.
It's a commitment that ultimately didn't last a full year. Lopati decommitted Monday, per On3's Hayes Fawcett, as the 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback's stock steadily climbed the past eight months.
Lopati has taken multiple unofficial visits this spring. The latest saw him in Ann Arbor, Mich., at the beginning of April. That visit to Michigan came on the heels of visits to Notre Dame and Duke.
"Been hearing several million different things.. anything specific?" Illinois coach Bret Bielema tweeted in response to news from Lopati's visit to Ann Arbor.
Lopati currently ranks as the No. 9 overall quarterback in the Class of 2027 according to 247Sports. The Salt Lake City native earned Polynesia Bowl and Under Armour All-American Bowl invitations after another strong season at West High in Salt Lake City.
Lopati completed 114 of 176 passes for 2,671 yards, 34 touchdowns and eight interceptions last fall, while also rushing 90 times for 730 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Panthers (11-2) lost to Orem in the Class 5A semifinals in mid-November.
Illinois is now down to one committed player in the Class of 2027 in composite four-star Evanston cornerback Justin Johnson. The Illini's one-man class ranks 18th in the Big Ten and 73rd nationally, per 247Sports.
