LAWRENCE — Kansas football won 38-21 this past weekend at home against Oklahoma State.
The Big 12 Conference victory saw the Jayhawks (5-4, 3-3 in Big 12) end what had become a two-game losing streak this fall. It also allowed coach Lance Leipold and company to regain some momentum, ahead of a potentially difficult final stretch of three games during the regular season. Bowl eligibility is still a possibility for KU, but starting with a road game Saturday at Arizona none of the matchups are easy wins on paper.
Kansas went to back-to-back bowl games in 2022 and 2023, before a disappointing miss in 2024. The Jayhawks also won the bowl game in 2023. Getting back to a bowl game would be a significant point of pride for the program, especially considering how long it had struggled to come close to reaching one prior to Leipold’s arrival in 2021.
Ahead of the game at Arizona, here are some bowl projections for Kansas:
ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura: Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl vs Navy
ESPN’s Mark Schlabach: Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl vs Army
These projections place Kansas in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, which is set for Jan. 2 in Fort Worth, Texas. One of the games would be against Navy (7-1, 5-1 in American Conference), and the other against Army (4-4, 2-3 in American Conference). Both programs would present a challenge, with Navy being one that’s still in prime contention to win the American Conference title.
Sports Illustrated’s Bryan Fischer: Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl vs California
This projection places Kansas in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, which is set for Dec. 23 in Frisco, Texas. It would see the Jayhawks go up against California (5-4, 2-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference). California is itself attempting to end a two-game losing streak heading into the weekend.
USA TODAY Sports’ Erick Smith: Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl vs Louisiana Tech
This projection places Kansas in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, which is set for Dec. 30 in Shreveport, Louisiana. It would see the Jayhawks go up against Louisiana Tech (5-3, 3-2 in Conference USA). Louisiana Tech most recently won at home against Sam Houston.
