Kansas football quarterback Jalon Daniels earns award following career

LAWRENCE — Although Jalon Daniels’ Kansas football career has come to an end, the recognition for his time with the program hasn’t.

According to a KU release, Daniels has been honored with the 16th Annual Pop Warner Little Scholars College Football Award. It highlights his achievements on and off the field. He’s the first Jayhawks player to ever win it, with fellow finalists this year including BYU’s Tanner Wall, Iowa’s Aaron Graves, Clemson’s Adam Randall and Kentucky’s Josh Kattus.

“I’m truly blessed and honored to receive the Pop Warner College Football Award,” Daniels said in the release. “I want to thank Pop Warner Little Scholars for this tremendous recognition. I strive every day to be the best version of myself and to make a meaningful impact on the communities that shaped me. Growing up in youth football, the lessons and experiences I gained helped grow my love for the game, and I hope to continue positively influencing players for generations to come.”

Pop Warner Little Scholars CEO Steve Strawbridge added: “Jalon represents everything this award stands for. He’s a gifted athlete, an accomplished student and a compassionate leader in his community. Young athletes across the country can look to him as an example of how to pursue excellence with character, integrity and commitment. We’re proud to honor him with this year’s award.”

Daniels, a multi-time captain, has been a Big 12 scholar athlete of the year. He’s also been a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, and semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award. Past winners of the honor Daniels just achieved, include Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, USC’s Michael Pittman Jr. and more.

Daniels joined the KU program ahead of the 2020 season. He contributed to the Jayhawks’ bowl teams in 2022 and 2023, as injuries hindered his availability. These past two seasons, although Kansas never reached the team success it sought out, saw him continue as its regular starter.
