MANHATTAN — A Kansas State football running back, who flashed some potential late in the 2025 season, is reportedly headed toward the transfer portal.
Antonio Martin Jr. plans to enter the portal, according to a report by On3’s Pete Nakos. Martin played one season for the Wildcats after being a standout FCS running back at Southeastern Louisiana.
Martin played in five games for the Wildcats, running the ball 19 times for 129 yards and a score. He had five carries for 89 yards and a touchdown in the Wildcats’ Nov. 22 loss at Utah.
Kansas State seems determined to add a running back to pair with Joe Jackson after the transfer portal opens on Jan. 2. Jackson, who also broke out late in the season, already stated that he would return to the Wildcats in 2026.
Additional ground support will be needed after the Wildcats were inconsistent running the ball in 2025, largely due to Dylan Edwards’ lack of availability and the time it took for Jackson to develop into someone the Wildcats will lean on in 2026.
The transfer portal will remain open for two weeks after it opens on Friday. More than 20 players from Kansas State have already declared their intentions to enter the portal.
