Keionte Scott, Zac Etheridge are heading to the CFP final with Miami

A pair of former Auburn Tigers are heading to the College Football Playoff National Championship thanks to their efforts in Thursday's CFP semifinal for the Miami Hurricanes.
Former Auburn defensive back Keionte Scott made three tackles and recorded two quarterback hurries, while former Auburn player and coach Zac Etheridge played a role in the Hurricanes' defense limiting Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to complete just 62% of his passes in Miami's 31-27 win over the Rebels in the Fiesta Bowl. The Hurricanes will play the winner of Friday's Peach Bowl between Oregon and Indiana on Monday, Jan. 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the Hurricanes' home stadium.
Miami led for a majority of the game, but the Rebels stole the lead with 3:13 remaining in the game when Chambliss connected with Dae'quan Wright for a 24-yard touchdown pass. Their two-point conversion attempt succeeded, and the Rebels took a 27-24 lead into the final stages of the game. Miami then answered with a 15-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a Carson Beck quarterback touchdown scramble with 0:18 remaining.
Over the last three games, Scott has made 17 tackles with an interception and a fumble recovery. Scott's 72-yard pick-six in the first quarter of the CFP quarterfinals laid the foundation for the Hurricanes' win over Ohio State. Etheridge is in his first season as Miami's defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator. He played safety for Auburn from 2007-10 and later coached Auburn's safeties from 2021-23.
