Kelsey Mitchell makes WNBA history with 21st straight 20-point game

The Fever star surpassed A’ja Wilson’s previous record while finishing with a game-high 37 points against Dallas.
Kelsey Mitchell has put her name alone atop one of the WNBA’s most remarkable scoring records.
The Indiana Fever guard scored 37 points against the Dallas Wings on Aug. 20, extending her streak to 21 consecutive games with at least 20 points. The milestone came with 4.4 seconds left in the second quarter, when Mitchell reached 20 points to move past Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson.
Mitchell entered the game having already matched Wilson’s previous record of 20 straight 20-point performances. She didn’t just break it in Dallas. She finished with the game’s highest scoring total despite Indiana falling 91-85.
The achievement caps an extraordinary scoring run for Mitchell. She began the streak June 22 with 22 points in a victory over the Phoenix Mercury and has maintained the pace for nearly two months. During the 21-game stretch, she has averaged roughly 27 points per game, according to USA TODAY’s report.
Wilson previously established the record across the end of the 2023 season and beginning of the 2024 campaign. Before Wilson’s 20-game run, Diana Taurasi held the mark at 13 consecutive games.
Mitchell, however, has taken the record to another level in a single season.
The Fever guard played down the personal milestone afterward, emphasizing that Indiana’s loss mattered more to her than another entry in the record book.
That mindset fits the moment. Mitchell’s scoring has been a major part of Indiana’s late-season push, with the Fever entering the Dallas matchup on a five-game winning streak. The team’s official coverage also confirmed Mitchell’s 37-point performance and the new WNBA record.
For now, the record belongs solely to Mitchell. The bigger question is how much farther she can push it before the streak finally ends.
