Arizona State football fans thought that the speculation surrounding head coach Kenny Dillingham and other coaching jobs was over.
They thought wrong.
Dillingham’s name has returned to college football coaching chatter with the firing of Sherrone Moore as Michigan coach, even though the coach has reiterated many times that he is not leaving Arizona State (including his comments during a recent podcast).
Is Kenny Dillingham a candidate for the Michigan job?
Check out wat some recent stories say about the ASU football coach’s potential fit in Ann Arbor.
CBS Sports: Kenny Dillingham second in odds to be next Michigan coach
The site has Dillingham at +400, behind only Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Joe Brady, to be the next Wolverines coach.
Brad Crawford writes: “After going 3-9 in his first season with the Sun Devils in 2023, Dillingham led Arizona State to a Big 12 Championship and playoff berth last fall with 11 victories. Injuries piled up at key positions this season, keeping the Sun Devils from repeating as league champs, but Dillingham’s rapid ascension within the coaching ranks speaks for itself. Dillingham wrote a warning to others eyeing different jobs this cycle on Nov. 30, saying ‘beware of destination addiction’ in a since-deleted post. Dillingham, 35, is an alumnus at Arizona State and called plays at three different Power programs — Oregon, Florida State and Auburn — among other titles prior to his return out West. He’s 22-16 in three years at Arizona State.”
SB Nation: Michigan could target Kenny Dillingham after Sherrone Moore firing
Trevor Woods writes: “If you want to prioritize the development of Bryce Underwood, look no further than Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham. Dillingham has been innovative wherever he’s landed, especially as offensive coordinator at Auburn (2019) and Oregon (2022). Dillingham went 11-3 in 2024 at Arizona State and had a College Football Playoff appearance. Dillingham’s partnership with ASU QB Sam Leavitt led to one of the more fun passing offenses to watch in all of college football. Dillingham is a strong leader, great recruiter, and innovative offensive mind who’s hungry at just 35 years old. This would be an exciting hire and Michigan’s offense would become increasingly dangerous.”
Yahoo Sports: Kenny Dillingham a Top 5 candidate for Michigan job
Zack Besaw writes: “The youngest and most dynamic name on the list is Kenny Dillingham, the head coach at Arizona State. Dillingham is a phenomenal offensive mind and recruiter, having engineered one of the most remarkable turnarounds in college football history at his alma mater, taking the Sun Devils from a 3-win team to an 11-win program and Big 12 co-champion in just his second season. He is viewed nationally as one of the best coaches at handling the modern-day challenges of NIL and the transfer portal. His reputation for elite quarterback development makes him a perfect fit for securing and maximizing Michigan’s future talent, particularly five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood. This would be a high-energy, splash hire signaling a clear move toward a modern, high-powered offense.”
FOX Sports: Kenny Dillingham would be a home-run hire for Michigan
Joel Klatt said: “Kenny Dillingham, at Arizona State, he’s about the right things. He’s seen it, up close and personal. He’s coached at Oregon. Now, he’s done it as a head coach. He won a Big 12 Championship at Arizona State and really succeeded in the playoffs.”

Not sure why Michigan is using a firm for their head coaching search when they can just read my tweet, hire Kenny Dillingham, and send me some Longhorn gift cards https://t.co/6cm84a4Y5V
