Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic tops Cochrane-Fountain City for Division 7 state football title

Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic won its first WIAA state football title Nov. 20, rolling to a 35-19 victory over Cochrane-Fountain City in the Division 7 title game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
The Lancers, who finished the season with a 14-0 record, scored 28 points in the first half.
Zach Rizzo, who was voted the state’s offensive player of the year for small schools by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association, set the Division 7 title-game record in passing yards, completing 15 of 18 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns.
Dominic Rinaldi caught 10 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns, setting D7 title-game records in receptions and yards.
Christopher Kenesie added 117 yards rushing and a touchdown on 19 carries for the Lancers.
The Lancers finished with 377 total yards compared to 280 for Cochrane-Fountain City, which finishes the season with a 13-1 record.
Brady Brandt led the Lancers on defense with six solo tackles.
Aidan Liswoski ran for 81 yards and a touchdown for Cochrane-Fountain City, including a 44-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to tie the game 7-7. That was the final time the game would be tied.
St. Joseph scored on all four of its first-half possessions to lead 28-7 at intermission.
Cochrane-Fountain City won last winter's Division 5 state basketball championship under Jesse Cyrus, who is also the head football coach. He was looking to become the third coach in state history to win state titles as head coach in both sports, joining Ron Schultz of Fall Creek and Pete Kittel of Brillion.
