Kentucky climbs SEC power rankings after upset of Aggies

Week three was big for the Kentucky Wildcats, but overall, it was a big week for the SEC as a whole. Kentucky's upset win over Texas A&M was just one of the stories to come out of the conference's schedule, and multiple games had a big impact on this week's power rankings.

Kentucky established themselves as a team to watch this week by not only beating the Aggies, but controlling the game in the second half, nearly turning it into a blowout. Both the offense and defense were strong, and they showed the potential of the program.

The biggest game on the schedule was Ole Miss vs LSU, which lived up to the hype. The game came down to the final play, and the Rebels came out on top, beating their former coach Lane Kiffin. Florida and Auburn faced off in a key game for those teams, and Mississippi State vs South Carolina showcased two star quarterbacks.

It was an interesting week in the SEC. Here's how the teams stack up after three weeks of action.

16. Arkansas Razorbacks

Last week: 16
Result: Lost to Georgia 45-17

It was another ugly outing for Arkansas. They had no answer for Gunnar Stockton and the Bulldogs on defense, and offense just couldn't keep up. It could be a long year for the Razorbacks.

15. Vanderbilt Commodores

Last week: 14
Result: Beat NC State 35-31

Vanderbilt came away with a win, but only on the flukiest, impossible play of the year. The Commodores offense is inconsistent, which is to be expected with a true freshman under center.

14. Auburn Tigers

Last week: 13
Results: Lost to Florida 44-39

The Auburn defense gave up almost 500 yards of offense in one of the more fun games to watch of the week. They especially had no answer for Gators RB Jaden Baugh.

13. Oklahoma Sooners

Last week: 11
Results: Beat New Mexico 14-6

It has been a rough start for John Mateer and Oklahoma. The offense has struggled to score points, and barely beating New Mexico is a tough result for the week.

12. South Carolina Gamecocks

Last week: 8
Results: Lost to Mississippi St 41-34

In a matchup of two of the most exciting quarterbacks in the country, Kamario Taylor beat LaNorris Sellars. The Gamecocks got out to a fast start, but couldn't keep in in the third quarter.

11. Texas A&M Aggies

Last week: 4
Result: Lost to Kentucky 31-21

There was a danger of this game turning into a blowout, but the Aggies put up some late points. Marcel Reed has to be more consistent, or they will have a tough time with any good defense.

10. Kentucky Wildcats

Last week: 15
Result: Beat Texas A&M 31-21

The Wildcats started slow, but dominated in the second half, led by Kenny Minchey, who made some big throws. The defense was also playing at an elite level, and forced Marcel Reed into some bad tosses.

9. Missouri Tigers

Last week: 10
Result: Beat Troy 27-20

Missouri didn't move the ball well, and Austin Simmons had just 91 yards passing. However, they got the job done against a team they should have beaten by more.

8. Florida Gators

Last week: 12
Result: Beat Auburn 44-39

The Gators continue to play well offensively, led by Jaden Baugh, who might be the best running back in the country. He ran for another 162 yards and 3 touchdowns on Saturday.

7. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Last week: 9
Result: Beat South Carolina 41-34

If their defense can hold up, the Bulldogs can play with anybody. Kamario Taylor is a superstar, and possibly the most exciting player in the nation.

6. LSU Tigers

Last week: 6
Result: Lost to Ole Miss 32-24

The Tigers have had slow starts two games in a row now, which is a major concern. Still, they battled back, and had a chance to tie the game late. Sam Leavitt has to be more consistent.

5. Tennessee Volunteers

Last week: 7
Result: Beat Kennesaw St 42-9

The Vols did what they were supposed to do this week by blowing out a weaker opponent. They face the top-ranked Texas Longhorns next, and will have a better idea of where they're at.

4. Alabama Crimson Tide

Last week: 5
Result: Beat Florida St 50-36

Florida State isn't a good team right now, so this win isn't as big as in year's past. However, the Tide offense continues to show it an put up points in a hurry.

3. Ole Miss Rebels

Last week: 3
Result: Beat LSU 32-24

It was a big win both over a very good team, and over their former coach for the Rebels. Trinidad Chambliss is the best QB in the country when he's on his game, but he also tries to do too much at times.

2. Georgia Bulldogs

Last week: 2
Beat Arkansas 45-17

Gunnar Stockton has been superb so far. They haven't played a good team yet, but they're doing exactly what they're supposed to do every week so far.

1. Texas Longhorns

Last week: 1
Beat UTSA 30-6

Texas has the biggest win of the season to this point, and got the blowout win this week. Keeping Arch Manning consistent will be the key for them.
