On a day where departures have been made apparent, a key member of the defensive line has announced his return to East Lansing.

Alex VanSumeren has been a staple of Michigan State football for the last four years, and he is going to stick around for a fifth and final campaign in the green and white. It is no secret that VanSumeren knows, and loves, the culture around Michigan State and he is committed to being a "Spartan dawg for life".

In three seasons of playing time in East Lansing, VanSumeren has collected 71 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. He is stout in the run game, filling gaps and having strong run fits, grading as a 69.4 in that category on PFF.

A very welcomed retention to the Michigan State defense, VanSumeren continues the Spartans rebuild of the trenches.
