No. 4 Georgia lost another key defensive player during its 35-10 victory over Texas on Nov. 15.

While already down junior defensive lineman Jordan Hall, who sustained an injury to his knee during the Bulldogs‘ 24-20 victory over Florida on Nov. 1, junior inside linebacker CJ Allen also sustained a knee injury against the Longhorns.

In the second quarter, he limped off the field, able to walk himself to the medical tent and even running out shortly after evaluation while pulling on his helmet like he was ready to line back up at scrimmage.

However, he disappeared a few minutes later and radio reported he’d gone to the locker room, while television originally reported it was a hamstring.

After the game, head coach Kirby Smart said Allen, who had come onto the sidelines with a crutch, was going to get an MRI. Allen had told Smart he was good at the time.

“I was concerned (when he went out) because he’s the leader, the centerpiece of that group. He’s the heart, the soul,” Smart said about Allen after the game.

At his weekly press conference Monday, Nov. 17, head coach Kirby Smart said Allen’s status will be “week to week.”

Redshirt freshman running back Chauncey Bowens also went out against Texas during the fourth quarter with an unknown injury. Smart said his status would be day to day, a little more hopeful than Allen, and that while he hasn’t seen Bowens, he was doing rehab this morning.

Georgia (9-1, 7-1) will host Charlotte (1-9) for its final scheduled home game of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 12:45 p.m. on the SEC Network.
