Koby Howard isn't going anywhere.

Penn State football fans were on high alert, wondering if the promising wide receiver would enter the transfer portal once it opened, but the true freshman announced on New Year's Day that he is staying put in Happy Valley.

The Pensacola, Fl. native played sparingly during his first collegiate season, recording only 7 catches for 133 yards. But Howard is held in high regard by many, and it appears new head coach Matt Campbell feels the same way.

It was important to keep Howard because of his talent and projected production in Campbell's offense, but after looking at the position group, wide receiver is going to be a serious question mark going into the spring, even with Howard's return.

Of the six players to record at least 20 receptions during the 2025 season, five of them will not return. The transfer trio of Kyron Hudson, Devonte Ross and Trebor Pena are all out of eligibility; running back Nick Singleton is entering the NFL Draft; and tighe end Luke Reynolds is entering the portal.

The only returner that meets the criteria is tight end Andrew Rappleyea (20 catches for 3 touchdowns), meaning Howard is in position to not only be a starter, but be heavily featured in 2026.

Wth Ethan Grunkemeyer enterting the portal and Rocco Becht expecting to make the transition from Iowa State to Penn State, the quarterback position has its own questions. But whoever earns the job will have a talented target lining up outside.
