Perhaps no opposing coach has given USC more fits during the Lincoln Riley era than Kyle Whittingham. The longtime Utah coach was 3-0 with the Trojans in the Riley era, including a win in the 2022 Pac-12 Championship Game, keeping USC out of the College Football Playoff.
When the Trojans left the Pac-12 for the Big Ten, it appeared as though they would no longer have to deal with Whittingham. However, that looks as though it will not be the case, as on Friday, it was reported that Michigan is set to hire the Utah legend as its next head coach.
USC and Michigan will not play each other again until 2028. The Trojans and Wolverines faced each other in each of USCms first two years in the conference, with Michigan winning in Ann Arbor in 2024 and the Trojans taking it in Los Angeles in 2025.
Even so, USC and Whittingham ending up in the same conference once again is a rather hilarious twist. Riley and the Trojans will look to perform better against their old foe in the Big Ten than they did in the Pac-12.
