La Salle's Gavin Sidwar is high school football Offensive Player of Year

The numbers are staggering, but the results are even better.

Yes, four-year La Salle starting quarterback senior Gavin Sidwar will leave as the school’s all-time leader in every passing category (surpassing his head coach Brett Gordon in all of them), but it’s what he and the team did that will stamp his legacy.

This season, Sidwar led his team to its second PIAA title (this time in Class 6A) and first since 2009 as the Explorers went 13-1 and defeated Pittsburgh Central Catholic 34-20 in the state championship game.

It adds up to Sidwar, a two-time first-team Courier Times/Intelligencer selection, being named our Offensive Player of the Year.

“To see how Gavin evolved and kept getting better and better at the position was really something,” Gordon said.

La Salle quarterback Gavin Sidwar eyes an opening in a Philadelphia Catholic League championship football game against St. Joseph's Prep, Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at Villanova Stadium in Radnor. The Explorers defeated the Hawks 24-14 for the title.

“A lot of players get to a certain point and then stop improving, but that’s not the case with him. Through hard work, and a lot of talent, he kept growing as a quarterback and added new things to his game every season and that was great to see.

“He understood what we were trying to do and has such a great grasp of our offense and we were able to do so many things because of that. We were able to spread the ball around to so many different receivers and that made the offense harder to stop and that’s a credit to Gavin.”

What Sidwar was doing in his four seasons as a La Salle starter didn’t go unnoticed as the college offers, big-time college offers, started coming in after he had thrown for over 5,000 yards and 61 touchdowns over his sophomore and junior years.

Ultimately, the University of Missouri won out and received a commitment from the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Warrington resident.

“Missouri is a good fit for him and he’ll do well there,” Gordon said.

La Salle head coach Brett Gordon congratulates quarterback Gavin Sidwar on his touchdown against St. Joseph's Prep in a Philadelphia Catholic League championship football game, Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at Villanova Stadium in Radnor. The Explorers defeated the Hawks 24-14 for the title.

“He can make all of the throws, he has really good size and he understands how to play the position really well.”

For Sidwar, college football will offer the obvious challenges and an opportunity to prove himself again on a much bigger stage.

La Salle's 2025 football roster includes standouts like quarterback Gavin Sidwar.

“I’m looking forward to playing college football, but I know I’ll miss my high school teammates and all of the things we were able to do here,” Sidwar said.

“Being at La Salle couldn’t have worked out any better for me than it did and I have a lot of great memories.”
