COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Lamar Jackson’s visit to the University of Maryland included a meaningful interaction with one of college football’s rising young quarterbacks. Jackson connected with Maryland quarterback Malik Washington during the Baltimore Ravens’ open training camp practice Saturday at SECU Stadium. The two spent time together as the Ravens brought their summer preparations closer to fans in the Washington region.

The moment linked a two-time NFL Most Valuable Player with a young quarterback coming off a record-setting debut season. Washington started all 12 games as a true freshman in 2025, completing 273 of 473 passes for 2,963 yards and 17 touchdowns. He established Maryland freshman records for completions and passing yards while finishing among the Big Ten’s top five in completions and passing yards per game.

The dual-threat quarterback also rushed for 302 yards. He became one of only two Big Ten true freshmen since 1996 to exceed 2,500 passing yards and 300 rushing yards in the same season, according to Maryland Athletics.

Washington surpassed 200 passing yards in 11 games and ended the season by throwing for 459 yards against Michigan State, the second-highest single-game total in Maryland history. His performance earned two Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards and recognition as Maryland’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Jackson offers an ideal example for a quarterback with Washington’s mobility and playmaking ability. The Ravens star has demonstrated that a dynamic runner can also develop into one of the NFL’s most productive passers. A brief training camp interaction will not define Washington’s development, but opportunities to connect with accomplished players can leave a lasting impression.

For Washington, Saturday provided more than a close look at an NFL practice. It offered time with a quarterback whose career has expanded what young dual-threat prospects can envision for themselves.
