Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers just suffered a tough offseason loss they were warned was coming. Kiffin and the Tigers have been in a good position for one of the top cornerbacks in the nation, but that’s no longer the case.

The signs have been there for weeks, but now Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers know exactly where they stand in the recruiting battle for 2027 five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson.

And it’s not positive news for the Tigers.

2027 five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson cancels official visit to LSU

Dobson, 6-foot-1/185 pounds from Cornelius, NC, was scheduled to take an official visit to LSU on June 12.

Plans changed this week, though, as Dobson has reportedly canceled his official visit to LSU and replaced it with an official visit to Michigan.

“Joshua Dobson tells Rivals Chad Simmons and I that Michigan is now locked in for an official visit the weekend of June 12, replacing LSU,” reported On3’s Steve Wiltfong. The Wolverines have been rising, and the Tigers fading for the past month. Moving forward, Michigan will battle Auburn, South Carolina and Texas A&M.”

The news doesn’t come as a complete shock as Wiltfong changed his prediction for Dobson from LSU to Texas A&M earlier this month.

“Last week I wrote that I was close to predicting the Aggies for five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson,” noted Wiltfong in early May. “After talking to Dobson at the end of last week, I feel even stronger about Texas A&M’s position. With that I’ve flipped my pick from LSU. Dobson has been to College Station several times including a couple trips in the spring. His camp tells Rivals that conversations have intensified as of late.”

Dobson is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 cornerback in the nation and the No. 11 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. He’s obviously a player that Kiffin and the Tigers would love to have in Baton Rouge, but this battle is trending away from LSU.
