With Lane Kiffin’s controversial move from the Ole Miss football team to the LSU Tigers, there is no denying that the sports world is still talking about the event since November of last year. As backlash has been attached to Lane Kiffin since the Ole Miss football departure, he would speak on an interesting hypothetical.
Kiffin would take the LSU job before the College Football Playoff, where the Rebels made it all the way to the CFP semifinal, where the team lost to the University of Miami, 31-27, with Pete Golding taking over as head coach. If Ole Miss permitted Kiffin to stay and coach the team, he says that the Rebels “ain’t losing to Miami.”
“[If] Pete Golding is in the press box calling the defense, that team is in the national championship,” Kiffin said to USA Today. “I don’t know what happens against Indiana, because the quarterback (Fernando Mendoza) is so good. We might win it, but we’re definitely in it. We ain’t losing to Miami.”
“If anyone wants to argue that theory, that if everything is kept intact, we’re not in the national championship, what are you going to argue?” Kiffin continued.
At any rate, no one will ever know if a Kiffin-led Ole Miss would have beaten Miami and played in a national championship against the Hoosiers, but there’s no denying he has title aspirations with the LSU Tigers. On the other side, the most anticipated regular-season matchup of the upcoming season will be on Sept. 19, when Kiffin returns to Oxford to take on Ole Miss.
