OXFORD — Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin is reportedly making preparations for taking over at LSU.
Kiffin intends to be the LSU’s coach in 2026, according to a report from On3’s Chris Low on Nov. 30. The report said Kiffin has lined up most of his offensive staff to join him at LSU.
There has been no official announcement about Kiffin’s hire.
Kiffin has told the offensive coaches if they are not on the plane with him in the afternoon they won’t be on his LSU staff, according to the report.
Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. and running backs coach Kevin Smith are big pieces of Kiffin’s staff.
LSU has a press conference scheduled for Dec. 1 to introduce Kiffin, according to the report.
Kiffin’s decision has captured the focus of the college football world. The Rebels (11-1, 7-1 SEC) are a College Football Playoff lock, and the jump would be to a fierce Magnolia Bowl rival.
Once again, drama has surrounded Kiffin’s exit from a program. He was initially supposed to make a decision on Nov. 29 but it was pushed back.
A 9 a.m. Ole Missteam meeting was called on the night of Nov. 29 but it has been reportedly pushed back until 1 p.m. Kiffin now may not be at the meeting because of the travel schedule LSU has prepared, per a report from Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger.
