Reports started coming out late last night, but it is now official: Lane Kiffin will be the 35th head coach of the LSU Tigers.

Kiffin took to social media to make the announcement on Sunday afternoon after speaking with his team. He also announced, despite both his and the team's wishes, that he will not be coaching the Rebels through their College Football Playoff push.

"I was hoping to complete a historic six-season run with this year's team by leading Ole Miss through the playoffs, capitalizing on the team's incredible success and their commitment to finish strong, and investing everything into a playoff run with guardrails in place to protect the program in any areas of concern."

It was apparently Keith Carter's decision to just move on. The team has also reportedly skipped the coaching search and will name defensive coordinator Pete Golding their next permanent head coach, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Kiffin will make the trip to Baton Rouge on Saturday, and the school will have a press conference on Monday to introduce him.

It is not yet clear which assistants will be joining him on the Tigers. The only name that has been reported is offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., per Football Scoop.

Weis and Kiffin started working together on the Alabama Crimson Tide staff back in 2015. Kiffin then hired Weis to be is offensive coordinator with the Florida Atlantic Owls back in 2018. They have worked together with the Rebels since 2022. Obviously, he is a key piece to Kiffin's supreme offense.

Kiffin will now need to restart on the defensive side of the ball. The answer could already be in Baton Rouge with Blake Baker coming off an incredible season.

The filling out of his staff will be the next objective.
