The Lane Kiffin sweepstakes have ruled the college football world over the past few weeks, but things are starting to wind down as a decision is expected to be made in the next 24 hours.

One of three schools believed to be in the running could now be out, though, as On3's Florida Gators beat writer Zach Abolverdi has reported that the Gators "do not expect to land" Kiffin and are moving on to other candidates.

Fellow On3 reporter Chris Low, who is known as being very close with Kiffin and his representation, backed up that report and stated that it is still down to either staying with the Rebels or going to the LSU Tigers.

The writing had been on the wall for a while that things were trending this way, but now official reports confirm it to be the case.

Kiffin is still coaching the Egg Bowl on Friday morning between the Rebels and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The day after this game is when Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said they expected to hear what the coach was going to do, after meeting with him last week.

Both schools remaining will be ready to hear the news, no matter what it is, so that they can get started on discussing other targets. The coaching cycle has already started to dwindle.

Top names expected to be included in the search, such as Eli Drinkwitz and Clark Lea, have already landed new contracts. Get ready for a wild weekend in college football.
