LSU football will open the season against Clemson for a second straight year. This time, the game will be in Baton Rouge as new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin makes his Tigers' debut.
All eyes will be on Baton Rouge. Could that make LSU the spot for College Gameday in Week 1?
LSU vs. Clemson won't be the same top-10 ranked matchup it was this year (both teams proved to be disappointments and finished the year unranked), but there's no shortage of storyline. LSU will be ranked, though likely not in the top 10, and Dabo Swinney has something to prove as the pressure begins to build at Clemson.
Perhaps the strongest point working in LSU vs. Clemson's favor is that there's not much else going on in Week 1. It's a rather boring slate compared to previous years. There might not be a single ranked vs. ranked matchup on the entire slate. LSU vs. Clemson could be the only shot, and that would require the voters to rank Clemson, which seems like a long shot right now.
Still, the game features two name brands with the story of Kiffin making his debut. And the contest will likely be a night game in Death Valley and the ABC primetime game. Those elemets along are enough to attract Gameday.
