Langham Creek LB Jhadyn Nelson commits to Texas Tech football team

A key reason for the Texas Tech football team’s success in 2025 was a linebacker unit led by unanimous all-AmericanJacob Rodriguez, Ben Roberts and John Curry. The group should be a team strength again in 2026 with Roberts, Curry and top transfer portal addition Austin Romaine.
The Tech staff is building the pipeline, too.
Houston Langham Creek linebacker Jhadyn Nelson told the Rivals recruiting service on Wednesday, March 18, that he’s committed to the Red Raiders. Nelson, reported by a Langham Creek staff member to be 6-foot-3 and 217 pounds, is the No. 29 prospect in Texas for the 2027 recruiting class and No. 190 in the nation on the 247Sports composite index. The index reflects the consensus view of 247Sports and other recruiting services.
More than a dozen Power Four conference schools have offered Nelson a scholarship, among them Texas, Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.) and Ohio State. He’s also attracted scholarship offers from Big 12 members Arizona, Baylor, Houston, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and TCU.
Other pursuing him have been Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina and UCLA.
According to recruiting services, Nelson has scheduled visits to SMU, Houston, Kansas State, Texas, Tech and Ohio State.
Playing on a 6-4 team last season, Nelson was credited with 59 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. He also had 4 caused fumbles and an interception.
Playing in eight games his sophomore year on a 4-6 team, he was credited with 42 tackles, 2 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery.
