LaNorris Sellers News Emerges on Saturday

As the 2025 college football season approached, there was significant hype surrounding South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers. He quickly became one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.

During a strong redshirt freshman season in 2024, he recorded impressive stats, throwing for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Additionally, he added 674 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, leading his team to a 9-4 record, their most wins since 2017.

However, this season did not go as well for Sellers and South Carolina. He passed for 2,437 yards, recording 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for only 270 yards and five touchdowns. South Carolina finished 4-8 after starting the year ranked No. 13.

Since the season ended, there has been speculation regarding Sellers’ future. Would he move to the NFL, enter the transfer portal or choose to return to South Carolina? On Saturday, it was reported that Sellers and South Carolina are in the final stages of negotiations for him to return to the team next season.

Sellers will enter his third year as the starter for South Carolina. The Gamecocks hope to see him improve not only because of his experience but also due to the change in coaching staff; he will have his third offensive coordinator in as many years, Kendal Briles. Briles follows Dowell Loggains and Mike Shula, who was fired before the season ended in early November.

If Sellers’ return is finalized, it would represent a defining moment for South Carolina’s immediate future. The talent that once made him a Heisman favorite is still there, but consistency, stability and development will determine whether he can recapture that form.

With Briles taking over as his third offensive coordinator in three years, the Gamecocks are betting that continuity at quarterback, paired with a new offensive vision, can spark a turnaround. For Sellers, next season now shapes up as a prove-it year, one that could redefine both his career trajectory and the direction of the program.
