The stylist says he has moved on personally, but remains firm about the fashion houses Zendaya won’t wear.
Celebrity stylist Law Roach says he has moved past the grudges he once held against fashion houses that rejected Zendaya early in her career. However, while Roach says he is now comfortable wearing some of those brands himself, he remains firm that Zendaya will not wear them on the red carpet.
The sentiments came up during an appearance on Ziwe Fumudoh’s “You’d Be an Iconic Guest’“podcast on August 16. The stylist has previously spoken openly about refusing to work with several major fashion houses after they declined to dress Zendaya when she was still a rising star. The brands he identified included Saint Laurent, Dior, Valentino, Chanel and Gucci.
According to People, those early rejections were particularly frustrating because Zendaya was not yet considered important enough by some luxury houses to receive their attention. In a 2024 appearance on “The Cutting Room Floor,” Roach recalled being told variations of: “Try again next year. She’s too green. She’s not on our calendar.” But his position has evolved personally.
“I’ve outgrown my pettiness,” Roach said, explaining that he believes holding grudges ultimately detracts from a person’s beauty. He pointed to his own changing relationship with the brands as evidence, noting that he was wearing Saint Laurent during his latest interview.
There is, however, a distinction between his personal wardrobe and Zendaya’s red-carpet styling. When asked whether Zendaya would now wear the fashion houses he previously rejected, Roach gave a firm “no.” That stance reflects their relationship which has grown into one of Hollywood’s most recognizable fashion partnerships. Roach also described their relationship as extending far beyond the traditional stylist-client dynamic, calling them “one soul sharing two bodies.”
Their partnership has helped transform Zendaya into one of the most closely watched figures in celebrity fashion, while Roach has become a major creative force in his own right.
