“Leave no Doubt” is more than a war cry for Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame Football

We’ve heard the phrase, “leave no doubt,” before when it comes to Notre Dame football. Hell — we’ve SEEN it on the field as well. As we approach the start of spring football for the Fighting Irish, the whole mantra is about to be a way of life.

In 2024, when the Irish had no business losing to the Northern Illinois Huskies from the MAC, they put on their war paint and beat down its next 10 opponents in the regular season, and then went on to win three playoff games before finally losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the national championship. There was plenty of doubt about the Irish after that NIU loss, but they put it to bed.

In 2025, Notre Dame lost its first two games by a combined four points and more doubt came their way. They did what they did in 2024, and beat the crap out of its next 10 opponents — but the ending was tragically different. There was just enough doubt (despite being one of the favorites to win the national championship after conference championship weekend was over) for the committee to flat out screw the Irish out of a playoff bid.

People can say whatever they want about how Notre Dame reacted to the screwjob, but Marcus Freeman quickly changed gears to move forward with the plan for 2026. The goal being, to not be in a situation where Notre Dame’s postseason future has… wait for it… any doubt.

To be perfectly honest, the schedule is light enough that Notre Dame can’t leave the doubt on the table — even with the new playoff seeding rules in place. Or — maybe they do, but Marcus Freeman is relentless and will put this team on his back to accomplish their goals. And oh by the way, Notre Dame is still the betting odds favorite to win the national championship.

So this whole “leave no doubt” thing is going to be more than a war cry or a theme for the 2026 season, it’s going to be part of everything they do until the job is finished.
