It was once believed that to win a national championship in college football, you simply needed to ace recruiting. However, Indiana last season showed that you need to get the right players and guys with experience. This season, Lincoln Riley has both of those factors trending in his favor.
In a recent college football feature from CBS Sports, writer Cody Nagel broke down how many starters each FBS team is bringing back next season. He highlighted USC as the team returning the most starters. Here is what Nagel had to say about USC coming out on top of this list:
“USC leads all FBS teams with 15 returning starters overall, including a national-high nine on offense,” Nagel wrote. “Lincoln Riley looks to translate that continuity into a long-awaited breakthrough in the Big Ten.”
Not only is Riley set up with an insane amount of talent from the No. 1 recruiting class this offseason, but he also has the most starters returning in college football at his disposal. That is how you create and sustain success in college football. It is time now for Riley to capitalize on all the resources he has and finally show results in the wins and losses.
Getting USC back on the map as a title contender would place Lincoln Riley back in the conversations he belongs in as a top coach in the country. In recent memory, USC, while more relevant last season, is still not where it needs to be in terms of contention status. Riley can change that this season with what he has at his disposal.
